Saturday May 20
11:30am-1pm: Foundation 1 - Taster w/ Ryan Francois

What is the difference between a Fundamental and a Stylistic Approach? What are the Fundamentals of Lindy Hop? And how do we recognize the difference between a fundamental/foundation step or movement and a stylistic one? Does it even matter? Why is a firm understanding of your foundational framework essential to your ongoing development in your chosen dance style? This Foundation taster class with Ryan offers a small glimpse into Ryan's foundational methodology, after 40 years of studying and adapting his understanding of the mechanics of Lindy Hop and other dances.

1:15pm-2:45pm: Insights to Jazz Music and Dance as a Shared Language - from a Master Musicians perspective w/ Gordon Webster accompanied by Ryan Francois
An exciting collaboration between Gordon and Ryan, this first half of a double header (led by Gordon) will focus on music appreciation for dancers. Learn the language of music like learning any language. Through conversation!

Sunday May 21
12-1:30pm: Insights to Jazz Music and Dance as a Shared Language - from a Master Dancers perspective w/ Ryan Francois accompanied by Gordon Webster

The second half of this double header - this time lead by Ryan - will explore, how different interpretations of the music's language can change the feel of a step by moving the syncopations to another beat. He will also give you a better understanding of interpreting music and translating it to movement.

2-3:30pm: Foundation 2 - Taster w/ Ryan Francois
The language of partnering! Plus balance, control and technique. Why they are important and how to improve them

As a follow up to Fundamentals in Foundation 1. In this taster class, you will be given lifetime perfecting Drills and Techniques aimed at improving your knowledge, body awareness, balance and control. Expanding your fundamental knowledge to include the essence of body control and how it relates to better partnering skills.

3:45-5pm: Simply Jazz w/ Ryan Francois
A Ryan style Vernacular Jazz routine, that will keep going till you drop or the song ends.

Danced to Duke Ellington's Rocking in Rhythm. There will be a certain degree of sweating involved. ;) Some experience with jazz vernacular needed. Not for the average beginning student although all are welcome to take part and have some fun!
