Andrew D'Angelo

ANDREW D'ANGELO began swing dancing in 1991 inspired by the rhythm in his "genes" passed on to him by his grandfather, a big band leader and drummer for over 50 years, fronting "Tommy Dange and His Club Royal Dance Orchestra."

A national competitor, instructor and judge for over 15 years, Andrew considers his greatest achievements his 2 first place titles at The North Atlantic Swing Dance Championships in the Champions Lindy Division with his longtime partner, swing legend, Ms. Dawn Hampton. Dawn and Andrew were also the subject of a documentary on swing dance for the Film School at Columbia University.

Andrew began teaching in 1994, and has been a proud member of the faculty at Dance Manhattan since 1999. He specializes in Smooth Swing and "classic" New York style West Coast Swing. He has been a guest artist and performer for many organizations and venues, including, Lincoln Center, The Dance Theatre of Harlem, Swing Dance America and the 52nd Street Project.

In addition to his dance credits, Andrew is also a popular swing deejay and M.C. in his native NYC and around the country. He is a respected jazz collector, historian and writer who has contributed his knowledge to books, articles, panels and shows.
